Isabel Arteta Durini
G3 Sustainability and communication Coordinator, Aglomerados Cotopaxi
Previously, science teacher at Colegio Americano (11 years). Diagnostic lab coordinator and International Purchases Manager at Pronaca (agro-industrial food products)
Isabel became involved in the family business recently. She visited the timber plantations with the head of Social Responsibility and realized the positive impacts of the business in all its natural and social surroundings. Soon after, Aglomerados Cotopaxi decided to publish its first sustainability report and Isabel was invited to work as the internal counterpart to a consultant firm. The result of this appointment was a deep dive into the business from the perspective of sustainability, that yielded the first sustainability report for the company and several related projects.
Isabel’s work philosophy is cooperative. She believes that teamwork is always the best way to get a good project to work sustainably, and that asking questions is more important than getting answers. Isabel’s eclectic background allows her to contribute a fresh outlook to any business that she works for.
She holds a BS in Animal Science from Cornell University; MBA from Universidad San Francisco de Quito; MEd. In Secondary Education from University of Alabama. GRI and sustainability reporting workshops.

Planting for the future – sustainability as a vehicle for transparency
Case Study
Aglomerados Cotopaxi is an enterprise dedicated to planting sustainable, commercial forests, which are harvested and transformed into fiberboard, particle board and moldings for both the Ecuadorian and international markets. Since its founding in 1978, the business has been focused on sustainability, as the wood is sourced from their own sustainably managed plantations. The company is part of a group of forestry, industrial and commercial businesses.
