Shanya Amarasuriya

5th generation Jeweller, Shanya Amarasuriya, is the heartbeat of one of Singapore's first luxury labels. Having grown up with a father certified in Gemmology further fuelled Shanya’s keen eye for gems, and her innate love for them grew steadily. She continues to personally source Sapphires and other precious gemstones from Sri Lanka. Her experiences constantly serve as her inspirations.


Her journey began after her Diploma in Business Studies, where she worked in several subsidiaries under B.P. de Silva Group, and ultimately found her calling with her family’s founding company, and most time-honoured jewellery business in Singapore, B.P. de Silva Jewellers. The independent luxury brand has been safekeeping stories through fine heirlooms since 1872. Today, it continues to specialise in natural gemstones such as Ceylon Sapphires, Morganites, and Blue-Sheen Moonstones.


Whilst pursuing her Degree in Gemmology and Fine Jewellery Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology New York, she gained a deep understanding of both traditional and modern jewellery-making techniques. She combined the techniques in her designs, and won several awards including the prestigious Next Generation Award by the Accessories Council, New York.


Shanya’s philosophy is, “All of us play a part in creating the world we want to see. With my team, and as a designer myself, our goal is to create elegant time-capsules of the best stories and values we want to pass down through generations. Each piece is designed to commemorate our best moments; I truly hope they will also serve as reminders to take our time discovering beauty in the everyday.” She also strongly advocates for B.P. de Silva jewellery to be made in good practice.


Shanya currently shadows the Group Chairman, Mr Sunil Amarasuriya, on the board of another family business, Swiss luxury watch brand, Audemars Piguet. During her leisure time, Shanya enjoys writing letters, painting, sourcing gemstones in new countries, and tea tasting.
